Permanent collection versus a special exhibition
Individual visits to the permanent collection and many temporary exhibitions are free without booking. Some temporary exhibitions need tickets, and groups must book a slot. The Gallery lists entrances on Merrion Square West and Clare Street. A free permanent-collection plan does not establish access to every special show.
Keep the visit selective
We would choose a few rooms or a theme after looking at the current visitor guide, then stop for lunch or coffee. This makes the Gallery a deliberate choice for the day rather than spare time between ticketed attractions.
Current limits
Rooms can temporarily close. The Atrium Creative Space is listed as closed 2–16 November 2026. For 10–13 November, also check the dated TFI Presidency-disruption notice and Gallery updates before fixing this as a fallback around Merrion Square.
Fit and alternative
Use the Gallery in place of Trinity when painting matters more to you than the manuscript and library. For a material-history afternoon choose Archaeology instead. Do not force both into a short departure day.
