Find the starting building

Begin in the Old Library, then continue to the Red Pavilion if you have booked the full Experience. Use Trinity’s directions and your ticket instructions for the starting point on the College Green campus.

Two formats, different inclusions

The full Book of Kells Experience combines the Book of Kells and Long Room in the Old Library with a Red Pavilion digital exhibition. The separate Book of Kells & Old Library ticket leaves out the Red Pavilion. Trinity suggests 90 minutes for the full Experience; leave extra room around it for finding the entrance and lunch.

The Long Room is changing

Most books have been removed for the Old Library Redevelopment Project; Trinity says the first four bays at entry retain books. Older shelf-filled photographs do not show what you should expect throughout the room now. Decide whether the present format still matches the reason you want to go.

Book only after checking the constraints

Entry is timed, online booking is strongly recommended and Trinity reports purchased tickets as non-refundable. There is no Experience storage facility. Arrange luggage first and read current access information for your group before paying.

Fit it into the day

Our recommendation is to keep the rest of the morning free, take lunch and choose one afternoon collection. If the only available entry falls in the afternoon, reverse the museum and Trinity blocks instead of crossing the city twice. The one-day route provides the fuller sequence.
