Keep a central art option

National Gallery permanent-collection admission is free for individuals without booking, while some exhibitions need tickets and groups need a slot. Check current room notices and the 10–13 November restrictions before relying on it. A ticket to an exhibition is a separate choice from a free collection visit.

Use Archaeology after checking the clock

The Kildare Street museum has free admission without booking for individuals, families and small social units. Sunday and Monday opening is listed as 1pm. It has no cloakroom service and asks visitors not to bring large bags or suitcases into galleries. Rain does not change those constraints.

Keep an existing Trinity or Guinness booking

If you already have the ticket you want, leave the rest of its half-day open. Trinity offers two distinct formats; Guinness has a standard self-guided product and extras. Replacing a walk with a longer pause is simpler than adding another paid visit.

Do not use the closed-library fallback

Chester Beatty and the whole Dublin Castle campus are currently closed through the end-2026 period. Older wet-weather lists that direct you there need checking. The Castle is also unavailable as a through route.

Leave Howth for a day that suits it

If the point of the excursion is time outdoors and the weather works against that, keep the day in the city. Choose depth in a collection instead, with fewer journeys in the rain.
