The current official notice
OPW marks the entire Dublin Castle campus closed during the current 2026 EU Presidency period. It explicitly rules out through access from Dame Street via Palace Street Gate to Ship Street. It anticipates welcoming visitors back in January 2027.
Plan around the closed grounds
Keep the day on the public street network and choose a central museum instead. The closure includes the grounds, so a map showing a passage through the campus is not a usable shortcut.
Before a later visit
Before adding a castle visit to a later trip, check the reopening and access notice. For the current closure period, use the National Gallery or Archaeology as your central collection visit.
